The Dual Diagnosis Funding program provides a source of funding for respite for children/youth with a confirmed dual diagnosis (mental health and developmental diagnosis) between 8 and 18 years of age.

To fit the criteria for Dual Diagnosis, a child/youth must have a developmental level at the first percentile or below and must also have a diagnosed mental health disorder. Developmental Diagnosis must be made by a Licensed Physician while mental health diagnosis must be made by a Licensed Psychologist/Psychiatrist.

 

The Dual Diagnosis Funding program supports children by providing:

 

  • Monies to hire workers to support the individual in the community or to access short-term out of home respite.
  • Flexibility to allow scheduling of respite services that meet the families’ needs.
  • Autonomy for families to hire the workers or arrange out of home services.

 

How do I make a referral?

 

  • Families complete an application on behalf of the child/youth on an annual basis.
  • Initial application must be accompanied by verification of both mental health and Developmental Disability diagnoses. These will be maintained by the agency.
  • Application will be reviewed, the family will be contacted for additional information as needed and a decision will be made dependent on criteria and availability of funding.
  • R.F.E.C.Y. will broker all funding allocations and the family will be responsible to ensure submission of invoices in a timely manner.

 

Dear families, colleagues, and community members

I am writing today to update you regarding the services and supports offered by Resources for Exceptional Children and Youth – Durham Region (RFECY). These are times not previously experienced by the RFECY team. In an effort to contribute to the wellbeing of our community and staff, effective immediately, all RFECY staff are working remotely and the office building is closed.

To the RFECY staff, thank you for your engagement in planning for the continuation of support to our community while ensuring the health and wellbeing of our community, colleagues and your families.

To our early learning partners, the ELI staff are responding to your voicemails and emails while also working on projects to enhance our work with you. For those centres with Enhanced Staffing, we know that your invoicing may be delayed and that you will have questions about payment of Enhanced Staffing hours during closures. Rest assured, we will continue our support to you and are available to answer any specific questions you may have.

To our children, youth and families, your staff person is checking voicemail and email regularly. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out. Staff are also initiating contact with families; don’t hesitate to speak to your staff person about anything we can do to support you. In addition, our Access Line (x504) remains active and calls are being responded to by our Access Coordinator.  If you are submitting for worker hours, rest assured that we will continue to do our best to ensure these are paid in a timely manner.
